How to Choose an Elliptical Trainer?

Elliptical trainer (or an X-trainer) is an effective and popular cardio fitness trainer that allows your legs to simulate elliptical movement. It is easy on your joints and thanks to the handlebars, helps you exercise even the upper part of your body. As one of our customers noted: “I feel the strain of my muscles but feel no pressure on the joints.”

Exercising regularly on an elliptical trainer improves your physical fitness and has beneficial effects on your heart, leg muscles, thighs, glutes, back, shoulders and arms. The trainer also helps you lose weight and rehabilitate after an injury without having to go to a gym or a fitness centre – you can exercise in the comfort of your home.

Basic Parameters to Consider When Choosing an Elliptical Trainer

  • Before buying an elliptical trainer, think about who will use it and how often. Will it be a recreational user, more people or a professional athlete?
  • Take into consideration the weight and height of the future user (take note of the recommended weight limits). Only buy a top-quality elliptical trainer if you know it will be used intensely.

Pay More for Higher Quality and More Functions

If you are a demanding athlete, select one of the more expensive elliptical trainers (take advantage of our special offers). They have electronic control, heavier flywheel, higher weight limits and a chest strap, all of which help you exercise more effectively.

Connect your trainer with a tablet and have fun while exercising!

The IN series includes elliptical trainers capable of connecting with your tablet or smartphone, which allows you to virtually move through interesting locations all around the world.

You might also wish for a high-end elliptical trainer.

What Parameters to Consider When Choosing an Elliptical Trainer?

  • Braking system – The braking system is mostly magnetic, ensuring smooth and quiet running. Even better is the induction (electromagnetic) braking system.
  • Frame – recommended capacity (user weight and height), design and ergonomic qualities. The weight limit of the trainer should always be a bit higher than the actual weight of the user.
  • Flywheel – from 4 to 10 kg. The quality and intensity of training depends on its optimum weight. Heavier flywheel ensures smooth and even running and therefore more effective training.
  • Core assembly of the flywheel – should correspond to the intensity of training. Smooth and even running is guaranteed by industrial bearings.
  • Computers and heart rate sensors – every elliptical trainer has at least a simple computer. They measure the frequency of your exercise, the virtual distance and the time of the exercise. Professional elliptical trainers offer extra functions, i.e. heart rate frequency measurement, burned calories count, resistance profile setting, etc.
  • Handlebars – they need to be ergonomic and made of quality material that doesn’t slip when your hands get sweaty.
  • Joint material – the quality of both material and manufacture of the connections directly influences the trainer’s durability. The cheaper models use friction segments, while the trainers in the medium price class usually have metal or brass casings. The commercial trainers have SKF bearings.

What Else to Pay Attention to When Choosing an Elliptical Trainer?

  • Quiet running, transport wheels, adjustable footpads to compensate for uneven floor.
  • Other functions – professional trainers can be connected to chest straps and regulate the user’s heart rate frequency. They also offer various training programs, fat percentage measurement or a heart rate recovery function that provides orientation assessment of your physical fitness. Some trainers have heart rate sensors inbuilt in the handlebars and other advantages that make the training more enjoyable.
