How to Choose an Electric Scooter?

Are you looking for an electric scooter, but don’t know how to pick the right model? You are definitely not the only one. This guide will explain the basic attributes of electric scooters and help you pick the one that will suit your needs the most.

Electric scooter is a compact vehicle for short distance rides, especially suitable for urban areas. It is very easy to steer and control and thanks to a folding frame, you can carry it virtually anywhere. Electric scooters are relatively new on the market, but they certainly have a future as easy to store and ecologic vehicles in larger cities, since they are perfect for smoothly avoiding heavy traffic. They are also great for short rides, quick shopping trips or as a transport to the nearest pub.

Advantages of Electric Scooters:

  • Clever transport – With an electric scooter, you’ll get everywhere. That’s why it’s such a great advantage, especially in larger urban areas. Thanks to its simple control and compact size, they are useful especially if you need to quickly overcome a shorter distance.
  • New type of fun – riding on an electric scooter is not only a practical way to move around a city, but also a great way to spend your free time. You can purchase it for yourself or your children, ensuring plenty of fun for both yourself and your family, be it at home or on holiday.
  • Environment protection – As the name suggests, electric scooters are powered by batteries. The battery can be charged within several hours and then you are free to start another ride. Riding an electric scooter therefore helps you conserve the environment.
  • Folding frame – Electric scooters are made so that they can be quickly and easily folded. In case you don’t want to ride the scooter anymore or the battery is depleted, you can quickly fold it and continue on foot.
  • Simple use – Anyone can easily use an electric scooter. All you need to do is to turn it on, push off the ground and take off. Thanks to an easy-to-read display, simple speed adjustment and an effective braking system, you’ll have the scooter completely under control.

What to Focus on When Picking Out an Electric Scooter:

If you have decided to buy an electric scooter, it is best to first think about what you expect from it. Other factors are important besides design, such as weight limit, maximum range, output, maximum speed, etc. The following points should help you familiarize yourself with the factors that will help you decide which scooter will be ideal for you.

  • USE

At first, focus on how and how often you want to use the scooter. If you need a reliable transport to work or school, it’s better to pick a more sophisticated model with a higher battery capacity and a better motor output. However, if you are buying a scooter for fun and occasional trips, you can select one with a lower price.

  • FRAME / WEIGHT LIMIT

The weight limit of an electric scooter is determined by the sturdiness of the frame. All electric scooters will carry the weight of an adult; however, some are more durable than others. We offer scooters with weight limit between 100-150 kg, depending on who you are buying them for.

Most electric scooters have a folding frame, making them easy to carry from place to place. Even then it’s better to find out how easily the scooter is to fold and how much it weighs. Therefore, when selecting a scooter, factor in how often you are going to carry it, and how much time you’ll have to fold and unfold it.

  • RANGE

Another important factor when selecting an electric scooter is its maximum range for one battery cycle. Individual scooter models can significantly differ in their maximum range (given either in km or in minutes). Compare the parameters of individual scooters and choose a scooter with a maximum range that meets your requirements. Of course, the longest range is provided by the most expensive models with high-quality batteries.

  • BATTERY

Battery capacity goes hand in hand with the maximum range of the scooter. The maximum range is usually somewhere between 40 minutes and several hours. However, battery capacity also depends on the terrain, riding style and the rider’s weight. You can watch battery depletion level on the scooter’s display. Generally speaking, the higher the battery capacity (Ah), the longer the maximum range.

  • STEERING

With most electric scooters, you accelerate and decelerate through levers on the handlebars. The number of speeds available can differ, but the way the speed is adjusted remains the same. (Having several speed options is useful especially when you have a child that will use the scooter as well.) We also offer models with speed control, making the scooter maintain a certain peed while riding. There are also electric scooters with a special gyroscopic system that allows you to steer the scooter by pushing the handlebars forward or pulling them back. The advantage of this system lies in smooth deceleration, helping you avoid sudden braking.

  • BRAKING SYSTEM

There are several options for an electric scooter’s braking system. Often, there is a foot brake on the rear mudguard, allowing you to stop the scooter immediately. Sometimes, an electric brake is also part of the scooter, to make braking smooth and more comfortable. There might also be a classic rear brake (either drum brake or disc brake) that is controlled by a lever on the handlebars. With models using a gyroscopic system, you brake by pulling the handlebars towards yourself.

  • WHEELS

There are two types of wheels usually used for electric scooters – inflatable wheels and tubeless wheels. Some models combine the wheels, the front one inflatable and the rear one tubeless. Tubeless wheels are made of durable material so there’s no danger of them getting punctured. Once they get worn, they need to be replaced. The advantage of inflatable wheels is that they will adjust to the road and better absorb shocks caused by an uneven terrain. To lessen the impacts further, some models can have a shock absorber on the front wheel as well.

There are several wheel sizes available. Generally speaking, bigger wheels are more stable and better for riding on uneven terrains.

  • DRIVE

An electric scooter’s drive is connected to the battery that powers it. The more powerful the motor, the better the riding experience. Motor output ranges between 250 and 500 W. Motors with higher output are suitable for heavier users or riding uphill. We offer electric scooters either with chain drive or hub drive.

All the above information should make it easier for you to pick a new electric scooter and at the same time determine what is the ideal model for you. It is also good to consider the lights on the scooter and its reflective features. If you know that you will use the scooter in bad visibility conditions, make sure to take proper precautions.

For selected models, we offer special accessories that can make riding on your electric scooter even more fun. For example, you can attach a seat to your scooter or put a bag on your handlebars to store either all necessary supplies for a trip or your shopping. However, always check your scooter’s compatibility with such accessories.

ATTENTION:
You should always wear protectors and a helmet while riding an electric scooter.
Please, be sure to consult your country's legislation where electric kick scooters are concerned. Their use on public roads is restricted in certain states.
